A month ago, a girl walked into class wearing the hottest jacket; she was wearing this black leather biker jacket.
Looking at it, you knew it was a biker jacket, yet it was chic and feminine.
Seeing this, I realized that it’s that time of year again.
Cloudy, windy, rainy and cold days mean it’s time to bring out your jackets.
Looking around campus, I don’t see a big variety.
The North Face seems to be the dominating force around here.
This is why seeing biker girl was a breath of fresh air.
Being a clone is not the way to go, especially when there are so many different varieties of outerwear.
Double-breasted jackets, biker jackets, bomber jackets, parkas, pea coats and leather jackets; your options are unlimited.
By simply looking on the Forever 21 Web site, I saw 11 pages of jackets and coats.
Buying a new unique jacket or coat is simple. You just have to know the rules.
Think about buying basics. Colors like black, brown, khaki, navy blue, white or cream.
For instance, if you bought a black pea coat, it would look good with a pair of jeans, or you can dress it up with some slacks. Your options are limitless.
Just be careful with colors like white or cream, these colors get dirty fast. And try not to piss off anyone, because they could accidentally spill their drinks on your coat (not that I would know).
And basic does not necessarily have to be boring. You can always make anything look better by pairing it with the right accessories.
Put on a scarf or buy that sexy knit hat you’ve had your eye on for the last two weeks.
If your heart just can’t endure wearing a basic color jacket, you can buy something that complements your look and your personality.
Know your budget. You can do this by simply going on the Internet and pricing jackets that you may want to buy.
There’s nothing worse than getting to the store, falling in love with something and then finding out that you can’t afford it.
And with the Internet you don’t even have to go to the store, you can order online.
The only con to this is that you can’t try the jacket on. Then if it doesn’t fit, you have to send it back and start the wait over again.
Also, think about what kinds of things you’re planning to wear under your jacket.
Are you wearing heavy winter sweaters or a simple T-shirt? This has a huge effect on how the jacket will fit you.
Please (this is an important point) make sure the jacket can close. If you can’t button or zip your jacket you need to bump up a size; just like jean sizes, jacket size differs from brand to brand.
Hopefully, with these pointers you’ll stop being a copycat and start being an individual.
