Since Tuesday morning, it’s been dark inside Burdick Hall. However, the students and faculty who have been misplaced by the incident will hopefully return Monday, June 8, according to the Towson University website.

“The transformer was put in late [Thursday] evening and was energized and we’re turning the building back on,” Stephen Showers, associate vice president for facilities management, said.

A contractor was working on Burdick Hall and shorted out the main transformer to the building at approximately 9 a.m. on June 2, Showers said. Students and faculty were notified immediately after the incident through the Daily Digest and an e-mail sent out by the office of vice president for administration and finance James P. Sheehan.

Health and nursing classes that were normally held in Burdick were temporarily relocated elsewhere on campus. However, the Special Olympics event was still able to take place.

“Students and faculty were able to be moved to another location, because it’s very dark [in there.] The contractor brought in a generator that was able to operate the pool for Special Olympics, which had a contract with the university to use the pool. We were able to manage that part of it,” Showers said.

Showers said that the whole ordeal was “an unfortunate accident” and that things should get back to normal soon.
