Student group supports presidential hopeful Ron Paul

With Maryland's primary elections on the horizon, a new political student group has formed at Towson with one overall goal in mind: getting Texas congressman Ron Paul elected as the next president of the United States.
Alex Peak, president of Towson Students for Ron Paul and vice president of the College Libertarians, founded the group earlier this semester.
"One of our goals is to get people registered to vote," Peak said. "After that, our goal is to focus on issues that Towson students may agree with and to encourage people to put their vote toward [Ron] Paul rather than one of the other candidates who have less of a chance of beating say, Hillary Clinton."
As of Tuesday Nov. 13, Peak's group has attracted eight students who attend weekly meetings, and has 25 members on its mailing list.
Peak's Libertarian political views lead him to Paul as candidate, despite the fact that Paul is campaigning under a Republican banner.
"I would say libertarians are people that everyone tends to agree with them on something," Peak said. "We typically view our current government as too big, taking away too many rights of the 'little man.' And we generally believe in personal responsibility, limited government and social freedom."
According to Ron Paul's official Web site, the candidate is running on many of the platforms that libertarians support.
The formation of the group, earlier this semester, was delayed after the Student Government Association originally voted against it.
After re-submitting the required constitution, the SGA turned over their initial decision and Towson Students for Ron Paul became an official student group on campus.
"It was basically a lot of school bureaucracy that slows down the process considerably," Peak said.
Towson Students for Ron Paul meets every Wednesday from 6-7 p.m. in the University Union Severn Lounge. For more information about the group, contact Peak at TowsonStudentsForRonPaul@yahoo.com.

Congratulations, Alex, and other students for Ron Paul, I believe you have made a very wise decision to support the ONLY presidential candidate that will authoritatively, constitutionally and systematically get America out of the mess it is in. (Continued…)
