Like the movie business, there are all sorts of summer blockbusters hitting right now and in the next few months.
First and foremost, the long-awaited "Grand Theft Auto IV" hit stores last week for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.
I never got into the "GTA" franchise; many games have executed the formula better without involving beating up hookers.
However, it definitely looks like the most polished installment in the legendary series to date. Players are once again dropped in Liberty City with missions to complete and a sandbox to explore.
"Ninja Gaiden II" hits the Xbox 360 in June.
The shuriken-stuffed sequel looks amazing. While developers of Team Ninja have been very tight-lipped, from what's been seen, the game earns its Mature rating with pride since the blood and dismembered limbs of Ryu Hayabusa's opponents litter the screen.
Hot on the heels of the new movie, LucasArts is cashing in this June with "LEGO Indiana Jones."
These LEGO games are really catching on and I have no idea why.
Is it society's subtle obsession with ironic humor?
Is it the idea of a silent, yellow, plastic hero battling Nazis, Soviet agents, or whatever else is thrown at him?
Who knows?
"Too Human," coming this summer (hopefully) for Xbox 360, started its life in development for the Playstation in 1999. Then the Gamecube.
For those keeping score, it's been in development a long time.
The action RPG has players take control of Baldur, a Norse god on a mission to protect humanity from a mechanical threat.
"Battlefield: Bad Company" is another installment in the popular series of first-person shooter games.
In the single player, players take control of a soldier in a renegade battalion on a quest for gold. Think "Three Kings," with less George Clooney.
"Rock Band" makes a delayed trip to the Wii this June.
Buyer beware, however.
This is a port of the toned-down Playstation 2 version.
Even the five "bonus" songs are all available as downloads for the other releases of the game.
There's not even any online play.
