University of Oregon quarterback Justin Roper has visited Towson as he looks to transfer, a source close to the team confirmed. Roper, a redshirt junior who would have two years of eligibility remaining at Towson if he were to transfer, threw for 610 yards and three touchdowns last season before an injury sidelined him for much of the remaining schedule.
During his freshman season in Eugene, OR, Roper went 17-30 for 180 yards and four touchdown passes in the Ducks’ 56-21 Sun Bowl victory over the University of South Florida.
Towson coaches were unable to comment until a decision by the player has been reached due to NCAA rules.
Blair Peterson, widely assumed to be the team’s current starting quarterback, also was unsure whether or not Roper would choose Towson.
“I just know what I read on the internet,” Peterson said. “I know it will affect me but I haven’t heard anything.”
The 6-foot-6-inch pro-style gunslinger also had scheduled visits to Montana, Eastern Kentucky and UMass and is likely to make a final decision before the next summer session starts at the school he chooses. Towson begins their next summer session July 6.
